Element 1.2 Manage your own time and resources
Performance Criteria
You must be able to:
1. set objectives that are specific, measurable and achievable
2. plan your work activities so that they are consistent with your
objectives and your personal resources
3. undertake regular checks to your equipment to ensure that it is in
full working order
4. make estimates of the time you need for activities that are realistic
and allow for unforeseen circumstances
5. take decisions as soon as you have sufficient information
6. take prompt and efficient action when you need to obtain further
information to take decisions
7. minimise unhelpful interruptions to, and digressions from, planned
work
8. regularly review progress and reschedule activities to help achieve
your planned objectives
Knowledge and Understanding
You must know and understand:
(a) how to set objectives for yourself that are specific, measurable and
achievable
(b) how to plan activities so that they are consistent with your
objectives and personal resources
(c) how to estimate the amount of time required to carry out planned
activities
(d) the kind of contingencies which might occur and how to assess and
plan for these
(e) how to assess how much information is required before effective
decisions can be taken
(f) how to collect and check the validity of the information required
for decision making
(g) the importance of effective time management
(h) how to identify and minimise unhelpful interruptions
(i) the importance of regular reviews of activity and rescheduling of
work to achieve planned objectives
