Concrete provides an alkaline environment which
prevents rusting because of the calcium hydroxide which is
produced as cement hardens.
In timber frame housing the purpose of the outer sheathing is to
prevent panel and frame deformation
In PRC construction a chemical (calcium chloride) was often
added to the concrete mix to accelerate hardening during cold
weather and to enable continuous production of the pre-cast units.
Concrete carbonation is primarily caused by carbon dioxide |
